The Chilliwack Independent Film Festival will hold its 8th edition this November, providing an opportunity for local filmmakers to take a big step forward.
The festival features a selection of screenings from around the world, including features, short films, and documentaries. This year’s event will include a focus on short film in the genres of science fiction, horror, and action, with the best film winning the first-ever Luchagore Award, named after a sponsor. These films will be presented in a special screening block presented by Gigi Saul Guerrero. There will also be a variety of workshops and panels designed for people in all sectors of the film industry.
This year’s festival will also feature the return of the Pitch Sessions contest, where aspiring filmmakers can submit their concept for a short film with a synopsis and video pitch. The top five pitches will receive all-access passes and be able to pitch in person to industry experts in front of a live audience, with the selected winner receiving $250,000 to make their vision a reality and being named a Talent to Watch. Film festivals like this are often an opportunity for filmmakers to network with each other and advance their careers, with Business Cards and portfolios often changing hands.
The 2024 Chilliwack Independent Film Festival will take place from November 22 and 24 at Cottonwood Cinema and Co-Work Chilliwack.
