Chilliwack course to tach participants what to do in a survival situation
A course is being offered in Chilliwack that will give those who take part the skills they need to be able to survive in the wildness should they ever find themselves stranded for a short period of time.
The workshop will give participants the knowledge they need to survive for up to 72 hours, which can greatly increase their chances of either being found by rescuers or being able to find their own way out. An assortment of topics will be covered, including how to set priorities, what essential gear they should have with them if they are spending time in the forest, and also how to keep a positive mindset until help arrives.
People will be taught how to make a shelter to stay warm and dry, purify water to make it safe to drink, build a fire, signal to rescuers for help, and determine which fungi, plants, insects and other animals can be used as emergency food sources. Catalog printers can create manuals and other handouts for use during courses such as this.
The two-day course will take place at Chilliwack’s Camp Linley on October 1 and 2. Participants are asked to dress for the weather, and cabins and camping spaces are available. The cost to take part is $260 each.
Those who would like to sign up or find out more can do so by visiting the Wilderness Survival Basics Eventbrite page.
