Chilliwack class to help build safer workplaces for everyone
Chilliwack’s MacRae Training will soon be offering a one-day course that will teach the fundamentals of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS), a method for responding to an emergency.
WHMIS, which is the nationally recognized standard for communicating workplace hazards, can be adapted to a particular job site, and those who are age 16 and up are encouraged to register now for this training opportunity. It will be a one-day long workshop, and it's intended for companies that are within 20 minutes of a hospital or other emergency care.
The course, which has been developed using standards set by WorkSafe BC and will be a morning and afternoon event, will introduce the use of material safety data sheets as well as the dangers of “controlled products” used in the workplace. Those who complete the workshop will receive their WHMIS certification, which will be valid for two years.
The fee to register for this event is $165, and the organizers can be reached at 1-866-344-3950. Materials for this sort of program, including training manuals, certification cards, and even promotional pens, can be obtained from area print shops.
This learning opportunity, which will help to build safer workplaces, will be on offer on Thursday, December 3. It will run from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, and it will take place at 12-45787 Yale Road.
