What's Happening in Chilliwack, BC…

Additional option coming for Chilliwack commuters

A new transit service between Chilliwack and Abbotsford will soon be up and running.

A public bus line known as the Fraser Valley Express will allow passengers to travel between the two cities, and it will also connect with the BC Transit line and travel even further – to the ferry terminal in Vancouver and beyond.

A representative of BC Transit was on hand at a recent meeting of Chilliwack’s city council to discuss the project, and they were told that public input has been sought into the viability of such a project. It was fond that the demand for this service is growing rapidly.

The stop in Chilliwack will be the easternmost point of the route, and it will make stops in Vedder, Luckakuck, Lickman Pond Road Park and Ride, and then head on towards Abbotsford. After that, it will make several more stops before completing its run in Langley.

From there, riders can connect with the rest of the BC Transit system. Brochure printers will be able to produce pamphlets that outline the route, as well as the different fares. The cost per trip will be $5.00, with a monthly pass coming in at $100.

The cost for this new public transit line will be paid in part from fares collected from the ridership, with The Cities of Chilliwack and Abbotsford also paying a portion of the total amount. The new service is set to start on April 6th.
