The 19th annual Mid-summer Scandinavian Festival is taking place for two days this June.
This popular festival will help to highlight the many facets of Scandinavian culture. There will be a real Viking village set up, with costumed citizens who will help to demonstrate what life was like at that time. There will also be folk dancers, musical entertainment, cultural displays, food for purchase, and arts and crafts vendors.
Other activities will include a Sunday brunch, the Paava Nurmi Run, and a wife-carrying contest in which the winner receives his wife's weight in beer. In addition, there is set to be a Friday night dance for those 19 and over, raffles, and children's activities. Some of the things that kids can do at the festival is to visit the troll forest, listen to a story, dance around the May pole, or pick up a passport and have it stamped at every booth.
Organizers of this annual Burnaby festival make sure that it is well-advertised. This can include investing in services such as sign, poster, and flyer printing from local companies.
The Mid-summer Scandinavian Festival will be held at the Scandinavian Community Centre from June 21st to 22nd; the dance will be held on June 20th. Admission is $10 per person or free for children aged 16 and under. For more information, call 604-294-2777.
