Burnaby workshop to introduce basics of micro-farming

There are many ways that an individual can make sustainable choices, and an online gardening workshop will show Burnaby that these changes do not have to be huge to make a big impact.

An online workshop has been planned with the home gardener in mind, and it will introduce its audience to some of the basic principles of small-scale farming. The presenter has a background in sustainable design, and they will be demonstrating how easy it can be to transform a residence or small garden into a productive “micro-farm”.

During the class, the attendees will discover a variety of ways they can start growing produce in their garden. Window farms, living walls, vermi-compost and other systems for producing food crops will all be discussed, and the facilitator will explain how these can be used to grow a wide variety of greenery that is both edible and attractive.

Along with tips for constructing and locating a micro-plot, the registrants will receive tips for choosing which plants will be the most productive. Stationery printers can prepare hard copy versions of these sorts of lists, which can be packaged along with other materials sent out to anyone taking part in a virtual class like this.

This presentation, which is being hosted online courtesy of VanDusen Gardens Online, has been scheduled for February 6th. The registration fee for the activity is $22.
