This year, Canada Day will be recognizing the 146th anniversary of the signing of the British North America Act. Communities all over the country hold celebrations on the day and Burnaby is no different.
The official opening of the Edmonds Community Centre will take place on July 1, and there will be a combined all-day celebration. Visitors will get the opportunity to explore the Community Centre and try out the fitness rooms and swimming pools for free. There will also be various activities for all ages, live entertainment, food and informational displays.
Burnaby Village Museum will also be taking part in the celebrations. Children and adults will be able to try their hands at heritage games. There will also be children's entertainer and magician Peter Rooke, a Canada Day parade and ceremony, face painting, picture opportunities with Canadian Mounties and, of course, plenty of birthday cake. Various cultural groups will be presenting folk dancers and demonstrations, including sword shows. The museum's carousel will be open on the day, too.
Organizers of Canada Day celebrations have, in the past, been known to work closely with Burnaby printing companies to help market the events to the general public.
The Edmonds Community Centre opening will take place on July 1 from 10:00am - 3:00pm. For more information, call 604-294-7944.
