Burnaby event to explore senior safety

Burnaby believes that when it comes to community safety, everyone has a role to play, and one of its initiatives will introduce a topic that may be of interest to older adults and their families.

The City Hall Council Chambers is set to play host to an activity that will be facilitated by Seniors First BC that will explore the topic of elder abuse from an individual and community perspective. It may be of interest to older adults as well as caregivers and other family members, and it will be free.

The session will introduce the attendees to the topic of elder abuse and the steps they can take to help prevent it. They will find out about the types of services that can be provided by Seniors First BC, and legal and other support and how to access them will be reviewed. Everyone will learn how they can report their concerns, and the activity will run for one hour.

Safety is an issue that impacts everyone in a community, and information sessions can arm residents with helpful information. They also offer an opportunity for neighbours to meet and get to know one another, and a brochure printing company can prepare information packets to distribute during an event.

This instalment of Burnaby’s Safe Community Series will be taking place on May 16th. A form is available on the city’s website that includes a link to register.
