St. Albert to host pickleball showdown

The St. Albert Pickleball Club will host its summer Pickle Party tournament this August, bringing together the best local player.

The tournament is sanctioned by Pickleball Canada and will use the internationally recognized rules. It will use a double-elimination bracket, with each player guaranteed at least 3 games. There will be a number of different competitions, with singles and doubles available as well as divisions by gender, age, and skill level. The Pickle Party will feature over 150 players across all of the different divisions. It is one of three tournaments hosted by SAPC across the summer, with promotional material emphasizing the goal of promoting friendly competition and social connection:

“Would you like more competitive play? More opportunities to socialize with friends? Then play in one of tournaments! They are loads of fun!”

Others participate in the tournaments as volunteers, in both large and small roles. Pickleball has experienced a boom in popularity because of its fast pace and accessible rules. Tournaments such as this often use methods such as poster printing and online outreach to help attract new players and fans. Participants must be members of the SAPC, and their performance will affect their Pickleball Canada Tournament Player Rating.

The 2024 SPAC Pickle Party will take place at Alpine Courts in St. Albert from August 16 to 18.
