St. Albert soap box derby to return

The St. Albert Soap Box Derby will be hitting the road again this June, testing the speed and engineering of local youth.

The event will welcome racers aged 6 to 14 for an inclusive and family-friendly event. Participating children will build their own vehicles out of common material and race them down a slope. There will be prizes for the fastest racers as well as other special achievements, and VIP races. There will be a minimum cost for cart construction, and racers of different ages in the same family can use the same cart.

The race day will also be a festival-style event, including a live MC, food trucks, and more. Community events like this one often use methods like banner printing to attract attention and recognize local sponsors and volunteers.

The Soap Box Derby event was first held in 150 to celebrate the City of St. Albert’s 150th birthday, and since then has become a community favourite, with hundreds of young people tackling the challenge. Technical support for the event is provided by the St. Albert Cruisers Car Club. Advertising says that the event’s goal is:

“to grow the St Albert Soap Box by providing more inclusive racing opportunities for kids ages 6 to 14 as well as to increase community awareness and involvement with this fun event.”

The 2026 St. Albert Soap Box Derby will take place at St. Vital Hill on June 20.
