The City of St. Albert has announced its plans for the upcoming Youth Week this August, with a number of free events aimed at teens and young adults.
Young people will be able to take part in craft activities and workshops, beginning with a DIY Bag Charms event and followed by a “Pieces of the Past” mosaic-creating activity. The Bunker will be open for hangouts including games of all types, a big-screen movie and a sports gym. The Soulfire mental health programme will be also be participating by running a drop-in event at Lions Park.
Other craft events will teach creative skills including tie-dying, clothes stitching, cooking and creating friendship bracelets. Big Brothers and Big Sisters will be hosting a special Picnic in the Park event. Youth arts organization Amplify will be joining in with an open mic event for singers and songwriters from ages 10 to 21.
The week will conclude with an “Intergenerational Murder Mystery”, where youth and adults work together to solve a mystery and where 1920s costumes are encouraged. The week of events is aimed at celebrating and encouraging young people’s creativity and connection to community. Community initiatives like this often use brochure printing and social media to help connect with the population.
The 2026 edition of Youth Week will take place throughout St. Albert from August 10 to 16, with all events free to participate in.
