The Art Gallery of St. Albert will be celebrating Métis culture this November with a pair of events to mark Métis Week.
The first event, Celebrate Métis Week With Us, will feature a display of the museum’s collections related to the culture of the Prairies’ unique and wide-ranging Métis Indigenous group. Exhibited items include archival photographs of Métis families and recordings of famed Métis fiddler Gilbert Anderson. Family visitors can participate in themed crafts inspired by cultural traditions.
This will be followed by the monthly Local Histories lecture, dealing with the theme of Métis Kinscapes and Deathscapes at the Museum. These talks typically feature local historians telling stories related to the St. Albert region and the Museum’s collection. Educational event like this often use methods like visual displays and flyer printing to help convey information or advertise the event.
These two events are part of the annual Métis Week hosted by the Métis Nation of Alberta, which takes place between November 15 and 22 and celebrates the Nation’s culture and encourages connection. Celebrations and educational events like those in St. Albert are held across the province. People from all backgrounds are welcome to the event.
Celebrate Métis Week With Us will take place on November 14, while the special edition of Local Histories will take place on the 21rst, both at the Art Gallery of St. Albert.
