St. Albert firefighters to hold family festival

This February, St. Albert’s Firefighters Local 2130 will be hosting an outdoor fundraising event in the form of the Fire and Ice Festival.

The Festival will feature popular outdoor winter events such as pond hockey and sleigh rides long with live performances by fire artists. Children will also be able to enjoy a junior-sized firefighter obstacle course and a petting zoo provided by Finnegan Farms, as well as craft activities throughout the day. There will also be food and refreshments available from local vendors. The afternoon event is designed to coincide with Alberta’s celebration of Family Day and provide a fun community activity for a family audience.

Admittance to the festival is free, but organizers will be collecting donations to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, which the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has a long history of supporting to help research treatments. Charitable events such as this often use tools such as poster printing and social media to draw in attendees, as well as to bring the community together. The Festival, which aims to be a Family Day tradition, also aims to build relationships between the public and the IAFF, which represents professional fire fighters as well as paramedics in the St. Albert area.

The Fire and Ice Festival will take place on February 20 at Lacombe Lake Park in St. Albert, except in event of extreme cold.
