St. Albert concert to recognize music pioneer

Second Sunset Productions will be hosting a special concert in St. Albert this October, paying tribute to pioneering singer-songwriter Jim Croce.

Croce was one of the most influential songwriters of the 1960s and 70s, releasing hits like “Time in a Bottle” and “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown”, before his death in 1973. The St. Albert concert, titled “The Life and Times of Jim Croce: A Canadian Tribute”, will look to present a new spin on Croce’s music with a selection of musicians from the Edmonton metro area.

The show will feature John Hewitt, Benjamin Williams, Patrick Hughes, and Connor Miskiman sharing vocal duties, while also playing guitar and bass. The quartet is also known for its performances in Gordon Lightfoot tribute show “Picking Up The Pieces”. Also performing will be Erik Mortimer on piano and organ, and drummer Jordan Dempster.

Tribute concerts like this are often a popular attraction, frequently using poster printing and local radio to help reach music fans. Promotional material for “The Life and Times of Jim Croce” emphasizes the role Croce had in rock history:
“A perfect combination of blue collar characters and intimate love songs intertwined with magical melodies, the power of his music to this day stands the test of time over and over again.”

“The Life and Times of Jim Croce: A Canadian Tribute” will take the stage at The Arden Theatre in St. Albert Place on Thursday, October 2.
