Pet-friendly St. Albert walk celebrates 20 years

St. Albert’s Tails on the Trails event, a charity walk that lets participants walk alongside their furry friends, will be holding its 20th annual edition this July.

The event raises money for the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, which helps care for abandoned animals and help them find new owners. Walkers raise money through pledges to walk a 2.5 km or 5 km distance, with dogs allowed to accompany them for part or all of the walk. Participants can set up their own web page to collect pledges online collect them in person or donate directly to the Tails on the Trails Ambassador Team. This is not the only workout pets will get at the event, as a Puppy Yoga event will be hosted later in the day.

The walk will begin and end at a festival area with pet-focused vendor tents, a barbecue cookout and a beer garden area. Tails on the Trails will also be raising money for SCARS through a silent auction, a 50/50 draw, and a raffle on the day of the walk. Attendees are also encouraged to bring empty glass bottles as part of a bottle drive. Fundraising events like this often use tools like social media and flyer printing to help reach a large audience of donors, and can provide a serious boost to non-profit organizations’ finances.

The 2024 edition of Tails on the Trails will take place at Lions Park in St. Albert on July 20, rain or shine.
