Irrelevant comedy show to celebrate anniversary in St. Albert

Edmonton-based comedy hit The Irrelevant show will be marking its twentieth birthday this January with a special celebration in St. Albert.

The event will reunite comedy stars Neil Grahn, Mark Meer, Jana O’Connor and Donovan Workun to perform their most popular sketches and songs. The show was a regular broadcast on CBC Radio from 2010 to 2017 following a number of short broadcasts in the 2000s, and won two Canadian Comedy Awards and a New York Festivals Radio Award. The show’s sketches typically focus on pop culture topics, with popular segments including the Jane Austen Drinking Game and the Bionic Centurion Trucker.

The show is subtitled “Doing Our Best” to reflect the greatest-hits nature of the performance. In addition to the regular cast, the group will be joined by MC Peter Brown, special guest Marianen Copithorne, and live sound effect artist Dave Clarke. Music will be provided by singers Jocely Ahlif and Kieran Martin Murphy, directed by Jan Randall. Live radio broadcasts or reunion events like this often use methods like flyer printing or social media to help attract audience members, reward longtime fans and give an inside look as to what radio shows look like in the studio.

The Irrelevant Show 20th Anniversary Special will take place on the evening of January 18 at The Arden Theatre in St. Albert.
