The gala will feature dancers from several studios in Alberta and beyond with links to the Society over its three and a half decades. The Society was established in Edmonton to promote the dance techniques developed by Agrippina Vaganova and classical ballet more generally. The Society hosts regular workshops but rarely holds its own dance performances, with this being the first since the 30th anniversary. However, it does regularly participate in festivals such as the upcoming Harmony Ballet Festival in St. Albert, as well as arrange international cultural exchanges.
The anniversary celebration will feature pieces from various classical ballets. Discounted tickets are available to youths 12 or under to encourage kids to participate and develop an interest in dance. Dance events such as this often use methods such as flyer printing and social media clips to help attract people and develop a wider community. Promotional materials for the Vaganova gala emphasize this sense of community between dance practitioners and viewers:
“We are honored to celebrate together as a community of dancers, teachers, and audience members!”
The Vaganova Dance Society 35th Anniversary Gala will take place on the evening of October 29 at The Arden Theatre in St. Albert Place.
