Brotherly puppet show coming to St. Albert

The Bighetty & Bighetty Puppet Show will be holding a weekend of performances in St. Albert this June, providing old-school entertainment for the whole family.

The puppeteer troupe consists of four brothers from Pukatawagen, Manitoba, who portray the puppet characters Baptiste, Marcel, Michel and The Chief. The brothers come from the Cree culture and incorporate it into their work, as well as classic puppet shows like The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock. The stage plays incorporate the Cree language and cultural experiences, as well as spontaneous comedy, music, and healthy themes. The Bighetty brother performances will include visits from school classes, to connect to curriculum elements such as creative expression and Indigenous culture, as well as to the general public on weekends.

The puppetry performance is part of St. Albert’s annual Children’s Festival of the Arts, which brings together family-friendly performers in a variety of genres. Other feature performances include Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical, Grimmz Fairy Tales, and The Libravian, as well as participatory activities throughout the weekend. Festivals such as this often use Brochures and hand-outs to help better communicate with children and give them something to take home.

There will be nine performances of the Bighetty & Bighetty Puppet show from May 30 to June 2, all taking place at the St. Albert Community Hall as part of the Children’s Festival of the Arts.
