The Calgary Highland Games are coming to Springbank Park for All Seasons on September 1 from 8:30 am - 10:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and teens, and $5 for children aged 5 to 12.
The games will offer plenty of things to appeal to everyone in the family. In addition to classic Highland event such as the caber toss and the tug of war, there will be highland dancing, bagpipes and drumming competitions, sheep dog demonstrations, a Viking village and battle, and a children's play area. Those taking part in the competitions can win bursaries and scholarships.
There will also be several vendors in attendance selling food and merchandise related to Scotland. Commercial and artistic vendors can rent space for $70 or $80 and food vendors can rent for $375. Vendors would be wise to work with Calgary printing companies to prepare for the games. Arranging for banner printing services would ensure that their booths stand out from the others and therefore probably bring more business their way.
Sponsorships, or patronages, are available for $100 and $250 and all sponsors will receive recognition in the program booklet given to everyone who attends.
The Games' organizers are hosting two soccer matches at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology on August 31 to raise money for the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. Admission is one non-perishable food item. The games played will be Scotland v England and Rangers Supporters’ Club v Liverpool Supporters’ Club. The evening will finish off in typical Celtic style with a ceilidh.
