A new store has joined the Calgary retail community.
West Elm, which is a US based home décor chain and owned by the same parent group as Williams-Sonoma and Pottery barn, opened the new location at Mount Royal Village 16th Avenue SW and Eighth Street.
The types of items typically sold in the store include a variety of furniture and related accessories such as rugs, bedding, frames and lighting. Customers will also have a chance to browse through and purchase items made by local artists and craftspeople as part of the chain’s LOCAL program. A community based printing company will be able to produce Signs, Business Cards, printed Shopping Bags, Flyers and a wide range of other promotional materials for use in a new business such as this.
Calgary graphic artist Alison Hui, who has some of her works for sale through the retailer, noted that she was excited to have her illustrations of city skylines on the shelves for the public to see and purchase. Other products from the area include Signs, coasters, soaps and pillows.
The manager remarked that it is one of the most visited areas of the store.
Jim Hardy, who is a retail analyst pointed out that more and more people are choosing to buy locally produced goods and produce, and this trend in being seen in retail and grocery stores alike.
