Coast-to-coast skate trip hits Calgary

A father-and-son skateboarding duo rolled into Calgary on Thursday to make a final recuperation stop before completing the last leg of their 6,400km longboarding trip across the country.

Brandon Harrison and his dad Michael are making the journey to raise awareness and funds to support childhood cancer research and treatment. Dubbed ‘Coast to Coast Against Cancer’, the epic trip began on May 14 in St. John’s Newfoundland.

When he was two years old, Brandon was diagnosed with cancer but he beat the odds and the disease went into remission. As he grew up, he developed a love for longboard skating, and decided that he could use his passion for the sport to help spread the word and raise money to help others.

In spite of the fact that Michael had never really used a longboard before, the duo have kept going, rain or shine, and are very thankful for all the support they have received along the way.

A Print company has produced clothing and other fundraising merchandise for the trip, and sponsors have created the custom painted boards which are being used.

Brandon noted that one of the best parts of the event was getting a chance to meet the friendly and supporting people who came out to meet them and cheer them on. Boarders who want to ride along with them are also encouraged to do so.

There is a remaining distance of 2,400km before the two reach the coast of BC, marking the end of the incredible ride.
