An urban forest can make a significant contribution to the overall health and ‘liveability’ of a city, and in Calgary, an event has been planned to aid locals in developing a knowledge and appreciation of this resource.
The whole family is invited to be a part of an hour-and-a-half-long walk in North Glenmore Park that will lead them through an exploration of the variety of tress that can be found on the site. The walkers will also learn about the park’s history and the different species that can be found at the location.
The kids in the group will be welcome to take part in tree bingo and a scavenger hunt, and all ages will be able to brush up on their skills when it comes to identifying the native and non-native species of trees that grow in the city. Tips will also be shared about how to best care for them so that they will be healthy and can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Members of the public who would like to be included in the afternoon’s activities are asked to gather at the Snowy Owl picnic site, and the walk will begin at 1:30 pm. Pamphlets that include details about tree identification and care can be produced for an event like this by a brochure printing company.
This opportunity to learn more about the urban forest has been organized for August 18. The park can be found at 7305 Crowchild Trail Southwest.
