A recent case in Calgary has provided some valuable lessons to the city’s health care system, and its ability to deal with serious communicable disease.
According to the region’s Medical Officer for Health, Dr. Richard Musto, a patient who had recently arrived from Africa and had symptoms suggestive of Ebola was transferred to the South Hall campus, which is the city’s designated facility for dealing with this serious disease.
He reported that, though there were some issues with communication between the hospital and the public, the client and the different health care professionals involved, overall he was pleased with everyone’s ability to respond in a timely fashion, and work well to provide care while protecting the city.
Musto also noted that there were lessons learned about the hospital’s need to store large amounts of protective clothing, both before and after it was worn by the health care team.
Though it turned out that the patient in question didn’t have Ebola, it is believed that the experience will help the staff of the hospital – as well as different stakeholders in the community – deal with any serious dangerous contagious disease in the future, not just this particular one.
As shown in this situation, communication and recordkeeping are vital in an emergency situation. Stationery companies can create a wide range of pre-printed paper Forms and other recordkeeping materials that can aid communication.Get a Free Quote for Forms Get a Free Quote for Stationery
