Annual Police Marathon held in Calgary

The annual running of the Calgary Police Half marathon recently took place at Mount Royal University (MRU).

Over 2,000 people took part in the race, which was directed by police superintendent Guy Slater. He remarked that he was pleased that so many had come out for the event, and that he was glad to see seasoned runners and newcomers alike. It was the 35th year that the sporting occasion had been held, and the number of those who come out continued to remain high.

Around 1,300 civilians, police officers, and their families participated in the half marathon, with the fastest time being 1 hour and 45 minutes. In the five kilometer run, or walk for some, there were 700 participants, with the fastest runner coming in at 17 minutes.

Much of the funding for the marathon comes from local small business owners rather than larger corporations. Companies that provide printing services can create all the items that are needed for such an event, including Banners, race bibs, signage, sign-up sheets, participation certificates, and awards. They can also do so at a price that will not use up too much of the event’s budget.

Any amount that is left over from the cost of holding the race goes to providing scholarships at MRU. In the past three years, approximately $30,000 has been donated to provide this financial help to students.
