Walk to check bird population at Bibra Lake

Bibra Lake residents who are keen bird watchers can join a free event where they circumnavigate the lake and observe the species en route, in order that they can be monitored.

The event is organised by Birdlife Australia, an organisation aiming to halt the extinction of birds threatened by climate change, habitat loss, fire and at the mercy of introduced species.

As part of the Beeliar Wetlands chain, Bibra Lake is host to over 130 bird species. Those attending the walk should wear suitable clothing, included closed-in footwear. They should also bring water, a hat, a chair and morning tea which can be consumed whilst the bird sighting list is being updated. The leader on the day will be Alan Watson.

The organisers of conservation-type events might use local printing services to produce handouts to provide additional information for those attending.

A Birdlife WA Walk will take place at Bibra Lake on Sunday 8th November at 7.30am. The meeting place is the southernmost car park off Progress Drive, close to Gwilliam Drive and near the jetty and main amenities block. The path is 8km long and the walk takes up to four hours, although it is possible to leave a car at the half-way point. It is a free event, suitable for Birdlife WA and members of the public.
