Environmentally aware people living around Bibra Lake can join an event that can shed light on how clever tree planting can provide a natural sun barrier for homes and gardens. This is part of the WA Tree Festival, that runs until 10th May.
Run by members of Ecoburbia Sustainable Living, the workshop will aim to demonstrate how nature can help with cooling the urban environment, imparting the basics of solar passive design so that the strategy of planting can cool in the summer whilst allowing the circulation of heat in the winter months.
Options explored will be low-cost, or even free, in some cases. The choice of trees, bushes and climbers is imperative, as is their location and how they should be planted.
At the end of the session, participants will have had some hands-on experience and hopefully will feel better-placed to make sensible garden choices, thereby reducing energy usage through the careful selection of plants.
Information-heavy sessions can take advantage of local printing services to provide informative hand-outs to attendees.
Cooling Your Home Using Trees is taking place on Saturday 9th May, from 10am until midday. The venue is the Bibra Lake Community centre, Bibra Lake. It is free to attend but all should register a place beforehand. The event is suitable for those aged 16 and over. There will be light refreshments.
