Those living in the Bibra Lake area can join a guided walk which highlights the area’s land, plants and animals, whilst educating about cultural protocols.
The walk, traditionally known as Walliabup, is led by Cyril Yarran, who is a Nyungar Cultural Consultant, and Forms part of the 25th anniversary of National Reconciliation Week. Yarran is an Aboriginal Education Officer and is the founder of Milliyaan Aboriginal Services (M.A.S). Passionate about keeping the Noongar Culture alive and known, Yarran specialises in hands-on interactive programs that help attendees to discover the traditions and stories of his people. During the walk, as well as highlighting the physical environment, Yarran will speak about the rainbow serpent, known as Waugal, and other tales associated with the area.
This year, the theme for National Reconciliation Week is All In For Reconciliation, meaning that Reconciliation is the responsibility of all Australians as an active rather than passive event, and is not just the remit of the First Nations peoples.
Community interest events similar to this are often publicised by the use of flyer printing and their subsequent distribution.
The Walk on Country for Reconciliation event is taking place on Tuesday, June 2, from 10am until 11.30am. The meeting place is the Bibra Lake Pier Car Park. It is free to join the walk, although it is necessary to register for a place.Get a Free Quote for Forms
