Twin tower project set to boost Scarborough economy

The construction of a new mixed-use twin-tower development in Scarborough is set to boost tourism activity in the area, according to a leading Tourism Council of Western Australia spokesman.

Tourism Council CEO, Evan Hall, said the recent approval by the Metropolitan Development Authority Board was a positive step for Scarborough and surrounding areas including Innaloo, Osborne Park and Balcatta.

The development, `Iconic Scarborough’, he said, is to be undertaken by 3 Oceans and will include a hotel, sky-deck and convention centre. It is expected to inject an estimated $155 million into the economy as well as creating more than 700 jobs. He commented:

“Iconic Scarborough’s convention facilities will attract high-yield mid-week visitors in the form of business events, while the resort-style hotel will attract leisure visitors and new visitors to the destination, particularly during the school holidays.”

The tourism leader also believed the sky-deck, which includes an outdoor observation area, is destined to become a major attraction for both locals and visitors alike.

Hall described the attraction as comparable with the Gold Coast’s Q1 and Melbourne’s Eureka Skydeck, which are often featured among top tourist spots in promotional brochure printing.

Hall said the new hotel will be well-placed to provide a unique and innovative beachside experience and together with local businesses and the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough will transform the area into a premier beachside destination.
