Balcatta ladies can soon enjoy a special event that celebrates Punjabi heritage - particularly the Teeyan spirit.
Teeyan (affectionately known as Teej) celebrates women coming together and their pride in the culture, traditionally held around the onset of the monsoon season.
Teeyan translates as the “celebration of a happy and prosperous married life”. This is also the time when married women used to return home to parents to catch up with family and friends.
The ceremony is dedicated to the Goddess Parvati and is enthusiastically enjoyed as a festival of enjoyment and happiness.
All those attending will experience traditional music and performances, such as the Bholiyan, along with dances such as the Giddha. There will be authentic Punjabi food, which is likely to include kheer (rice pudding) and poorhi (fried bread). In addition, there will be a lively non-stop DJs, competitions and games, surprise giveaways and stalls selling Punjabi suits and jewellery, all adding to the vibrancy and celebratory nature of the occasion.
Stalls selling goods often rely on business card printing services so that interested parties can take away the vendors’ contact details.
Teeyan Perth Diyan – 2026 (Ladies Only Event) will be taking place on Saturday, 27 June from 3 pm until 9 pm, at the Sicilian Club, 1 Fortune Street, Balcatta. A ticket costs from $10. The event has been arranged by Kingz Production.
