What's Happening in Balcatta, WA…

Train enthusiasts get onboard in Balcatta

Inhabitants of Balcatta and the surrounding areas who are fans of trains and railways might be interested in the Public Run Day towards the end of July.

The Northern Districts Model Engineering Society (NDMES) is the backbone of the Stirling Miniature Railway. This is a club for model engineers, where members build traction engine models, miniature trains and stationary models.

The NDMES has close links with other clubs both at home and abroad. The trains and locomotives are also exhibited at events such as The Hotham Valley Open Day, the Australian Model Railway Association (AMRA) and the Australian Association of Live Steamers (AALS).

On Public Run Days, those buying tickets can have unlimited rides on the miniature trains and picnic in the vicinity. They will also be able to make purchases from the kiosk.

Hobby societies often make use of local printing services in order to produce items such as timetables and information leaflets.

The Public Run Day will be taking place on 27 July from 10 am until 1.30 pm. The venue is the Stirling Model railway, which can be found at 8 Vasto Place in Balcatta. Tickets cost $12 for an adult and $6 for children. Those attending must wear closed-in shoes, even if they are just watching. It is also possible to pre-book the rotunda for a party of 10.
