Ratepayers from Osborne Park, Western Australia, will only be slightly affected by proposed local government border changes announced by the state’s government.
While the nine boundary adjustments and three amalgamations have been advocated under the plan, the City of Stirling and Melville boundaries have only been recommended for small modifications.
The changes were announced by Tony Simpson, who is a government minister, and Premier Colin Barnett after several years of discussions and consultations on the best way to handle the reform, which will effectively reduce the number of metropolitan councils from 30 to 15. This will, in turn, lower the elected member numbers by 100 and chief executive officers by 10.
It is estimated the move would save the Government a minimum of $30 million over a decade in regard to CEO packages, and $20 million in allowances for elected members.
The majority of the plan involves the incorporation of a single local government body, with another, such as the Shire of Mundaring, becoming part of the City of Swan.
The amalgamation of six local government authorities into three has also been sanctioned by the State Government.
These will include the cities of Cockburn and Kwinana combining to form the City of Jervoise Bay; the City of Fremantle and town of East Fremantle joining up as the City of Fremantle; and the City of South Perth and town of Victoria Park forming the City of South Park.
Rockingham, Wanneroo and Joondalup will remain unchanged.
The changes are good news for printing companies responsible for producing Stationery for the various government bodies directly affected by the plan.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
