Premier opens upgraded Celebration Park facilities

Women’s soccer players from throughout the City of Stirling, including Balcatta, have welcomed the recent upgrade to facilities at Celebration Park.

WA Premier Colin Barnett officially opened the new-look clubrooms, which included the provision of extra toilet facilities and an upgraded change room for the soccer club’s Northern Redbacks Women’s team.

City Mayor Giovanni Italiano said an initial grant of $500,000 from the State Government in 2013 had kicked off works at Celebration Oval, which is the area’s home sporting ground.

He said at that time the facilities were outdated, run down and in urgent need of an update.

The mayor applauded the works which, he said, have addressed the need to provide much needed facilities for the club’s all-female teams. Previously members had to use change rooms that were intended for males.

Newsletter printing had identified the need for better facilities and Mayor Italiano said the city moved quickly to address it, paving the way for similar upgrades throughout the city’s sporting arenas.

He said clubhouse facilities and change rooms throughout the city were being converted to unisex following growth in the number of females taking part in various sports in the area.

The latest upgrade at Celebration Park, which includes the addition of an office, kiosk and clubroom, specifically caters for the clubrooms and four soccer teams, and will allow the venue to accommodate match day visitors as well as social activities.
