So far, the playgrounds have included a Dr Seuss-inspired apparatus area, a giant steam-billowing volcano and a Formula One-style circuit for scooters and bikes. Child’s play has become a whole new ball game, with more money than ever being spent on the development of creative playgrounds, according to Shaun Reynolds, a design consultant with Forpark Australia.
As recently as a decade ago, children’s park funding generally consisted of council budget leftovers. Nowadays, it is the norm for millions of dollars to be invested. Osborne Park families are the latest beneficiaries, with the City of Stirling recently opening a $3 million playground in Yokine. The City of Nedlands is also proposing a $3 million foreshore play space, while the City of Vincent is hoping to create a facility in Leederville.
Recent years have seen more than $15 million spent on iconic and attractive play areas in Melville, Mandurah, Wanneroo and Belmont. According to Stuart Cole, City of Belmont CEO, the Belmont playground has exceeded expectations, and draws visitors from all around Australia. He said:
“High-quality public spaces enhance people’s health and sense of wellbeing and connection to the outdoors and as such are valuable assets for the community.”
Developers are also beginning to jump on the bandwagon. Playground facilities are an investment that can significantly improve a suburb, and are worth advertising as part of development strategy, through brochure printer’s Catalogues, Stationery printing, poster printing, and other related Print company products.
