The Magic Man 34 speed car event is getting bigger every year, thanks to a growing list of sponsors, including Osborne Park Retravision, long term supporters of the race.
This year’s event offered $26,000 in cash and prizes, with Retravision providing a handy $2,000 incentive for the first WA car home. It is only the start of the West Australian Speedcar Drivers Association season, running from October until April, but the drivers have hit the dirt running, with fierce competition in the first three rounds.
Legendary American driver Davey Ray again stole the show in round two, driving his team DeRosa Midget, winning both heats and the final. Less than a week later, another American, Steve Buckwalter, driving a Paul Jordan #75 machine, snatched victory at Collie Speedway in the Wild West Country Series. The iconic Midget cars, favourites on Australia raceways for decades, are a truly international spectacle, with the top drivers from Australia, New Zealand and the United States often featuring on the podium.
After a postponement due to incessant rain, fans of the Magic Man 34 event came out in force, supporting their local heroes in the pits and the stands, courtesy of local banner printing and signage experts.
While the competition continues to increase in the Speedcar division, all divisions have expanded. The passion of the world’s best drivers ensures the entire event is strongly supported, highlighted by the Magic Man 34 race.
The next race in the Midget Car season takes place this Saturday, November 24, at the Perth Motorplex, followed by round two of the Wild West Series at Bunbury City Speedway on December 1.
