Visitors are treated to the sound of thundering presses, and the aroma of paper and ink, as they witness the transformation from raw materials into Western Australia’s largest newspaper. With 150 staff employed in producing over four million Copies every week, the state of the art facility, completed in 2007, comprises the world’s best equipment and materials sourced from as far away as Canada and Finland.
Feedback from the tours has been effusive, in no small part due to tour guide Anthony Alborne’s extensive knowledge of the Print industry. One visitor declared:
“It was brilliant and much more interesting than I had imagined. I’m only sorry my husband missed it, he would have been in his element amongst the robots and all that lovely manufacturing technology.”
Newspaper House hosts the photographic department and editorial newsroom, including its SKY Television and FM radio studio facility. The Herdsman Print Centre boasts the most sophisticated facility in the Southern Hemisphere, with the capacity to deliver enormous 1.5 ton rolls of newsprint to the presses.
The initiative showcases the progressive world of newspapers, with visitors allowed to take photographs and encouraged to ask questions. Tour groups of up to 30 people are accommodated, with tours lasting from 60 minutes up to 3.75 hours.
Visitors also receive a free copy of The West Australian, plus an informative brochure, souvenir handout, and other Print services paraphernalia.Get a Free Quote for Copies Get a Free Quote for Print
