New online format for Blink Photography Awards

Photography enthusiasts from Balcatta and throughout Australia are being invited to vote in the City of Stirling's 2020 Blink Photography Awards, which have gone online for the first time this year.

The new format will provide an opportunity to feature a wider selection of entries than during previous events, according to Mayor Mark Irwin. He said submissions are based around the theme of capturing what we truly value, and those participating were urged to enter their most powerful or strongest images. The categories are Open, Altered, Places and People, and entrants are vying for a share of $4000 in prize money.

In addition, awards for the People's Choice, a youth entrant and a Stirling City resident will be presented. Winners of each category will be determined by a team of industry professionals, including arts worker, artist and independent curator Glenn Iseger.

Contests such as this have often highlighted talented locals who may one day see images of their work become a focus of brochure printing campaigns that promote future exhibitions.

Prior to the closing of submissions, the mayor said the theme of this year's awards could be interpreted in many ways, and it would be fascinating to see the final outcomes.

The competition was free to enter. Following the close of submissions on November 8, entries were posted online on November 12. The public can now vote for their favourite photograph for the People's Choice Award, which closes on November 30.
