The recently opened BMX track, which is set in the reserve's northern corner aligning Light Street and Alexander Drive, is now open for public use.
Work on the project has seen the completion of Stage One and Two, which involved the installation of a viewing space, pump track and associated infrastructure, including bicycle racks, drink fountains and a shelter, together with a skills trail for mountain bikes.
Community consultation began for the new BMX facility in 2018, with council approval gained in July last year. Construction began in March this year.
Compacted limestone was used to build the skills trail, which features elements like rollovers, drop offs, balance beams and rock climbs. Its establishment was aimed at minimising any impact on the area's existing plants, while also taking full advantage of shade available from existing trees, according to a council spokesperson, who added:
"The facility provides a new and unique opportunity for people of all ages to test their skills and develop new skills."
Flyer printing campaigns and media coverage have often helped to boost awareness of new community amenities, such as the BMX facility.
Funding is now being sought by the council for the project's final stage, which will involve the establishment of jump lines.
