Multimillion beachside pool project on track to begin mid-2016

Balcatta residents are among thousands who stand to benefit from the establishment of a new beachside pool complex in Scarborough.

The City of Stirling has announced recently that designs for the $26m facility are now complete.

According to Mayor Giovanni Italiano, the Scarborough Beach Pool complex will meet the recreational and health needs of locals and the wider population for a long time into the future, as well as add to the many major landmarks that feature on Promotional Products and Postcards.

The design, he said, reflects the local beach’s unique characteristics along, with key aspects of similar beach and ocean pool facilities throughout the country.

Mayor Italiano said the 50-metre outdoor swimming pool will be heated. The design has also incorporated a mezzanine level allowing for 600sqm of future beverage and food opportunities with indoor and outdoor dining opportunity to take full advantage of the panoramic ocean views.

He added that it also provided for a separation of pools to accommodate learning to swim, junior and senior swim squads, along with other uses like pool inflatables and water polo.

Construction of the Scarborough Beach Pool is set to commence in a few months with a late 2017 completion and early 2018 official opening expected.

The Mayor said Council was expecting to hear soon whether a grant application for funding from the State and Federal Government to assist the project had been successful.
