Residents from throughout the City of Stirling, including Osborne Park, are being urged to get into the Christmas spirit and help the needy by donating food cans.
Mayor Giovani Italiano encouraged everyone to get behind the Council’s Cans for a Cause initiative this year.
He said at a time when many people got caught up in the hustle and bustle of preparing for traditional family gatherings and the hunt for last minute gifts, there were others who would find it a major challenge just to feed their children at Christmas, including those displaced from the regular home due to domestic violence.
Mayor Italiano said the festive period was a great opportunity to show support for those less fortunate, and to partake in the giving spirit of Christmas this year.
He urged all residents to find it in their hearts to give one or two cans of food to help someone in need and bring a little joy to their Christmas as well.
Until December 17, food cans are able to be dropped off at the City of Stirling Civic Building and various collection points throughout the Stirling, including Leisurepark Balga, Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre and Karrinyup, Scarborough, Mirrabooka, Inglewood, Osborne and Dianella Libraries.
Flyer printing throughout the area, or a call to council, can provide further information. Food cans collected for the 2015 Christmas appeal will be distributed into hampers and donated to the City’s Women’s Centre.
