Local arts festival in running for top national award

Balcatta who have taken part in the Summerset Arts Festival are being invited to give the event their vote at a national level.

The Festival, held each year by the City of Stirling, has been named as a 2016 Australian Event Awards National Finalist.

A judging panel of industry leaders and experts selected the event from a huge field of entries from around the nation.

City of Stirling Marketing and Communications Manager Meriel Pickering said that securing a finalist berth in the awards has effectively confirmed the festival’s status as being among Australia’s top few events in its category. The country’s best achievements and events were are by the Australian Event Awards, regardless of the audience or size of the event.

The Summerset Arts Festival has been an event on local Calendars for eight years, with the event transformed into a Fringe World Venue two years ago, resulting in it being named the 2015 Best Independent Venue.

Pickering said the event attracts more than 30,000 patrons during a 17-day run that showcases up to 50 events. She added that everything from children’s activities to arts, theatre, circus, comedy and music are included on the festival programme, which is held throughout the City of Stirling in pop-up venues, buildings, parks and creative spaces.

The announcement of winners in this year’s Australian Event Awards will take place on September 21.
