Balcatta residents are in a prime central location to appreciate four new murals that are now adorning buildings within the City of Stirling.
The separate artworks, which were commissioned by Stirling Council, give new life to buildings at the Mt Flora Regional Museum, Mirrabooka Community Hub, Scarborough Community Hub and Karrinyup Museum.
According to Mayor Mark Irwin, the project was initiated to help foster a feeling of place and community, with each individual design selected to capture the location's unique character. It also comes at a time when the creative industries are facing tough economic conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Mayor said the murals did not only support the industry but were also a great example of the valuable role members of the creative industries play within the local community. The Mayor also said that the results are spectacular and all artworks will be enjoyed for many years to come in the future.
Brochure printing campaigns which highlight local attractions often include colourful murals such as these recently completed works.
The murals, which evoke a common theme of connectivity, each incorporate Sioux Tempestt's ‘You're Welcome’ at Mirrabooka Community Hub, Jerome Davenport's ‘Forever Young’ at Scarborough Community Hub, Peter Ryan's ‘Fishing for Dreams’ at Karrinyup Library and Brenton See's ‘Swamp to Sea’ at Mt Flora Regional Museum.
