Learn to cook fancy French cakes in Balcatta

Around the world, French patisserie enjoys a reputation for excellence. Residents in and around Balcatta can learn to create macarons using Italian meringue in a two-hour class, under the watchful eye of a Michelin-starred chef.

Macarons are delicate, puffy meringue-style small fancies, barely more than a mouthful. They are often coloured in pastel shades with a matching creamy filling. The origin of the macaron is steeped in legend, but they remain an ever-popular item today.

During the class, Francois Morabito will show participants firstly how to make Italian meringue, how to cook it and then how to pipe it, using three different flavours and fillings. There will also be plenty of trouble-shooting tips. The class is capped at seven, so there will be plenty of space and time for discussion and personal attention. Local printing services are often used so that attendees can take away recipe sheets in order to practice at home.

A recent participant reviewed her enjoyable experience in a class:

“Francois was very knowledgeable and patient and imparted the perfect amount of information for me to feel really confident in making my first ever batch of macarons. He was funny, pleasant and authentic.”

The Macarons Cooking Class with Francois Morabito, the French Michelin starred chef, takes place on Friday 24th November, from 4pm until 6pm. The venue is Francois’ Private Kitchen, 2/2 Cressall Road, Balcatta, WA6021. Tickets cost from $128.37.
