A graphic design or artist’s impression of the $24.9m project, which includes a neonatal nursery and new rehabilitation unit, was unveiled recently by Health Minister Roger Cook and Premier Mark McGowan.
According to the Premier, more comprehensive plans will emerge soon for the works, which are expected to be completed by late 2021. He added:
"While we've committed more than $230 million towards a brand new women's and maternity hospital to be co-located at the QEII precinct in Nedlands, it's essential we continue to upgrade our maternity services at hospitals like Osborne Park so more people can access care closer to home."
Balcatta MLA David Michael said he welcomed the latest upgrade to Osborne Park Hospital, which had served the local community for more than half a century, saying it will modernise and provide fit-for-purpose facilities for patients.
The expansion will include enhanced obstetric services that will incorporate a maternity assessment unit and neonatal nursery as well as a new rehabilitation unit to host 16 beds, effectively adding 10 new beds to the six stroke beds already existing.
In a northern suburb’s ‘first’, a centralised therapy hub will also be established to cater for rehabilitation needs of outpatients and inpatients in a modern, contemporary environment.
