Golf course upgrades at Hamersley

Golfing enthusiasts from Balcatta and throughout Stirling City are being made to feel more inclusive when teeing off at the popular Hamersley Public Golf Course.

Mayor of Stirling Mark Irwin said Golf Australia had led the way by reforming the rating system of tees at the course, identifying them by colour instead of the traditional system of gender. This allows players to select a tee that is more suited to their ability. The course, he said, had received two white and red tee Boxes to replace the old ladies' and men's tees.

Described by the mayor as one of Australia's busiest golf courses, the popularity of Hamersley has been steadily increasing with boosted demand for more course attendance and tee times. He added:

“As a diverse local government, we support participation in sport for everyone in the community and moving to coloured tees means that players have the option to use shorter or longer tees based on their ability and not their gender.”

Golf is a sport that has long been well supported by community members, as well as business owners who have often held golf days or given away golf experiences as Corporate Gifts.

Irwin said a number of improvements had been made by the council to the course since early in 2021, including the introduction of a new putting and chipping green. The council is also seeking to improve signage and matting on the course's driving range as well as adding more golf carts.
