Explore the streets of Balcatta after dark

Residents of Balcatta and the surrounds will have the opportunity to experience something different next month, with a teenage-led activity that will take attendees on a walk through the city at night.

Nightwalks with Teenagers is an initiative of The Mammalian Diving Reflex (MDR). Originating from Canadian, the concept is to explore social settings and challenge societal norms. MDR have created theatre, installations, film and other aspects of art, mostly working with the non-art fraternity, to create work that inspires, strikes up a conversation and ultimately aims to bring down barriers between divides, be they cultural, economic, social or age-related.

On the Nightwalks, the young teenage guides will plan routes that are meaningful to them, and will then share their experiences with attendees, in the hope that there will be a deeper sense of connection and understanding. The guides may make use of flyer printing to document routes, which can be handed out during the evening.

Nightwalks with Teenagers Forms part of the Perth festival, and will take place from Thursday 22 February to Sunday 25 February. The walks begin at 7.30pm, and last for approximately two and a half hours. Tickets cost between $24 and $29, and are available to purchase online.

The meeting point is yet to be confirmed, and attendees will be required to wear appropriate and comfortable footwear.
