Stirling Council is showing its support for small businesses in Balcatta and across the city by contributing to two programmes on offer by the Stirling Business Association (SBA).
For over four decades, the SBA has provided a selection of services that help small businesses in the local area to grow personally and professionally.
To help increase the number of businesses able to benefit from membership of the association and the many programmes such as online forums, networking events and skills training on offer, the council has agreed to cover half the membership cost for existing and new members for a full year.
The initiative, spurred on by a challenging economic time, is funded under the City of Stirling's Economic Stimulus and Community Recovery Package and covers local small business operations with under 20 staff.
According to Mayor Bianca Sandri, the area hosts about 22,000 businesses and 98% of these are categorised as small businesses. They range from cafes and Print shops to construction.
The SBA will also be supported through a Stirling City subsidy in its online programme ‘Business Mastermind’, which gives owners of small businesses advice about evolving, adapting and preparing their business in times such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council funding was welcomed by Chief Executive of the SBA Yvonne Atkinson, who said it could help drive up membership and introduce more business owners to the Mastermind programme.
