Funded by the RAC initiative Reconnect WA the concept, which involves the set-up of a temporary town square together with a number of plaza-style pop-up events to run until June this year, emerged from discussions between the City of Stirling and key Nollamara cultural groups, according to Mayor Mark Irwin who added:
“Young couples and families say they want to see casual outdoor dining and meeting places in their local areas and vendors who are too small to rent retail spaces are looking for informal, low cost options such as markets.”
He said the creation of local employment opportunities and economic development is a key priority for Council and establishing a space such as the Gnalla pop-up town square or plaza at Nollamara was providing a place where locals could socialise and connect adding to the vibrancy and activity within the community.
Pop-up events such as this that seek to attract members of the local community have often been widely advertised via the media and strategic flyer printing campaigns targeting residents.
Local businesses are invited to apply for an opportunity to secure temporary stall spaces for everything from entertainment and food to craft at the pop-up plaza which will feature many activities ranging from movie nights to roving performers.
