An event celebrating the music and culture of the Luo people will take place at a local club in Balcatta this autumn.
A cultural event entitled “Ramoji Night 2025” is bound for Balcatta this May. The suburb’s popular events venue Vasto Place is lending it halls to the party that celebrates the culture and music of the Luo people of Kenya.
The event is presented by Ramoji Australia, a community of Luo-speaking Kenyans who live in Australia who are passionate about their heritage. Organisers of local events often work closely with poster printing services to create colourful adverts that welcome members of the community to attend.
A musical extravaganza, Ramoji Night 2025 will feature DJ Kevo who plays a mix of Ohangla, Benga, Orutu, Rhumba and Nyati genres, and hit Kenyan musician, Tony Nyaduno, often called the “King of Ohangla”. Ohangla is a traditional form of music produced by the Luo people while the word “Ramoji” is a reference to the Luo people’s forefather.
While the upcoming event in Balcatta celebrates Kenyan culture it invites attendees from every cultural background to attend and learn more about the Luo people, including their traditional cuisine, Tilapia fish (Ngege).
Ramoji Night 2025 will be at Vasto Place and starts on Saturday May 17 at 4 pm and runs until Sunday, May 18. The venue can be found at 5 Vasto Place in Balcatta.
