The awards were introduced by the City of Stirling to highlight and celebrate local heritage and history. Entries from businesses, community members and groups who work to educate and preserve local heritage and history are being encouraged.
Council also welcomes nominations for groups or individuals whose contribution to the preservation and education of local heritage has been outstanding. The 2020 biennial awards will feature two categories - History and Heritage.
Photographs from the past will be the focus in the history category, while the heritage section will focus on aspects of the built environment including ruins, parks, streetscapes and houses. A total of six sub categories will also be included, in which up to $500 can be won. These include a special youth category for teenagers aged 16-18 who are asked to photograph an event, place or building within Stirling City and detail in words its special significance to them.
Aspects of local history can be seen in everything from an old postcard to a new Logo Design, and Mayor Mark Irwin stated that the awards will also help unite the community, adding:
“These awards unearth many interesting items that may well have remained unappreciated by the public, adding to the richness of local history preservation and sparking many interesting conversations and connections.”
The deadline for nominations is February 14th.Get a Free Quote for Logo Design
