West Melbourne soccer team search for exhibition match opponent

The group behind a bid to launch a new soccer team to represent West Melbourne and its surrounding suburbs is on the lookout for a big name side to play its first game against.

Current rumours suggest the West Melbourne Group have secured a well-known European team to play an exhibition match at Kardinia Park in Geelong in July 2019.

The match is still subject to a new team being granted a licence to join an expanded A-League next year, but the group has reportedly sent local player agent Lou Sticca to Europe to lock down an arrangement.

Sticca is also supposedly hoping to sign an Italian player of the same calibre as Alessandro Del Piero to captain the new side. A newly created soccer team may create extra opportunities for graphic design and banner printing services.

The A-League has been expected to finalise its expansion plans with an announcement on October 31, however there is a possibility this will be pushed back due to a recent reshuffle of the League’s management.

The West Melbourne Group, led by Melbourne businessman Maurice Bisetto and former Socceroo Steve Horvat, recently announced their new team would play its home games at Kardinia Park until a permanent ground can be built in Tarneit in Melbourne’s outer west.
